Prayer Garden & Columbarium

Living in Christ, Resting in Peace

A Respected Tradition

Burial at one's church is a respected tradition throughout history.

today it is possible for an urban church like Central to restore the churchyard tradition, through a columbarium.

This is where our loved ones can come back home to a permanent resting place.

Columbarium

The Columbarium offers a secure setting, plus total protection from the elements.  All materials are selected for permanence and durability.

Prayer Garden

The Prayer Garden offers a memorial wall dedicated to those loved ones who are buried elsewhere or whose ashes are scattered.  A setting of natural beauty with trees, plants, soothing water and a cross make the garden a quiet place for meditation and prayer.

Who May Purchase?

  • Eligible person who may purchase a niche or memorial plaque are:

  • Members of Central, their immediate family members, including parents, spouses, grandparents and children whether biological, adopted, foster or stepchildren.

  • Ordained members of the Western North Carolina Conference.

  • Others as proposed by the Senior Minister approved by the Trustees

Niches & Memorial Spaces

In the start-up phase of the Garden, 96 niches will be available; more will be available as the need arises.  Dozens of spaces are ready on the memorial wall.

Cost:

  • Memorials - $200

  • Single Niches - $1000

  • Double Niches - $1500

Supporting the Garden

The Prayer Garden/Columbarium at Central United Methodist Church is self-sustaining.   No church budget money was used in the initial project or will be needed for the future.  There are many ways to support the garden, through purchase of memorial benches or planters or donations to the Prayer Garden/Columbarium fund.

To Lend your support to the garden, please contact the pastor, the financial secretary,  or members of the Prayer Garden/Columbarium committee.
